2023 – 9th Annual Science At Low Frequencies (SALF) Conference

Driven by substantial upgrades in recent years to existing facilities and the construction of new radio telescopes, the capabilities for low frequency radio science are greatly expanding. Significant progress is being made in high redshift 21-cm cosmology including the cosmic dawn and epoch of reionization, pulsar and transient science, and the understanding of planetary and exoplanetary magnetospheres, radio sky surveys, space weather, and solar physics. The Science at Low Frequencies (SALF) conference provides a forum for astronomers to share and discuss science results, techniques, and technologies, as well as to plan a coordinated path forward to future projects and facilities.

SALF IX will be a hybrid conference, with the in-person component hosted at WCW, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. WCW is located in the Science Park associated with the University of Amsterdam.

Travel Advice

For people flying into the Netherlands, it is suggested you fly into Schipol airport. From there, Amsterdam is immediately accessible via train. A train leaves for Amsterdam approximately every 15 minutes. The tickets for the train are purchasable after exiting the luggage collection part of the airport. You find the schedule of the trains on the NS website. We would advise against travelling to Amsterdam from Schipol via taxi.

The conference venue (WCW), located at Amsterdam Science park, is accessible by bus, train, and biking infrastructure. There is a direct train from Schipol airport. Google Maps has all the information for travelling the best route to Science Park, but you can find further information here.

If you require a letter of invitation for visa purposes, please contact the ASTRON secretariat ASAP via ao-secretariat@astron.nl.

Also, if you would like childcare resources, we are happy to provide resources for that but it will have to be arranged on an adhoc basis (largely due to Dutch law). If that is something you would like, please contact the ASTRON secretariat ASAP via ao-secretariat@astron.nl.

Accommodation Advice

Some recommended hotels are provided below. This is list was formed of hotels that are reasonably close to the conference venue and reasonably priced (for Amsterdam). Outside of the Manor Hotel (detailed below), we have not made block bookings. So please choose a hotel (or other form of accomodation – booking.com or airbnb will have lots of options) that suits your budget and book asap. The recommended hotels are:
